WASHINGTON—Defense contractor Raytheon Co. said Thursday it has received a contract to develop an airline tracking system to make better use of increasingly crowded airspace in the United States.
Raytheon, based in Waltham, Mass., did not disclose financial terms of the U.S. Department of Transportation contract for the NextGen Terminal Data Distribution System.
The data system will automate flight information that Raytheon said will increase airspace capacity by improving the exchange of data between systems and integrate data sources.
Aircraft will pass through different tracking systems that transmit data and communicate with each other.
