UPDATE ON AIRCRAFT PILOT AND PASSENGER PROTECTION ACT (HB 2919 & SB 1960)

Just a quick update on the status of the Aircraft  Pilot and Passenger
Protection Act (House Bill 2919 & Senate Bill 1960) that is currently
making its way through the Oklahoma Legislature. This morning HB 2919
unanimously passed out of the Senate General Government and Transportation
Subcommittee. The bill will next be heard by the Senate Appropriations
Committee. HB 2919 easily passed the House of Representatives on March 8 by
a vote of 94-3.

On the House side, the Transportation Committee is set to hear SB 1960
sometime within the next two weeks. The bill unanimously passed the full
Senate 40-0 on March 4.

The Aircraft Pilot and Passenger Protection Act would protect public-use
airports from obstructions and incompatible land use within specific
distances from the airport. The legislation would grant the Oklahoma
Aeronautics Commission the power to deny a permit to build an object within
the specified distances.

As more information become available, we will certainly pass it along.

Sincerely,

Harve Allen
