The event will be a luncheon on December 9 from 10-12 in Hangar 14 at Wiley Post (Atlantic Aviation’s Hangar14 at Wiley Post Airport)

The event is a fundraiser for the OAOA Scholarship Fund so there will be a cost of admission of $15 which will be sold by advance ticket purchase only.  No tickets will be sold at the door so though it’s technically public the public can’t just walk in and attend.

In case you were wondering about the date – December 9 was chosen as ‘Women in Aviation Day’ to honor Pearl Carter Scott who was the youngest pilot in the united states in 1929.  She is Chickasaw and flew with Wiley Post.  There was a movie recently filmed about her called ‘Pearl’ and you can read more about her here:https://www.chickasaw.tv/profiles/eula-pearl-carter-scott-profile

Max Westheimer Airport
is excited to announce that we will be hosting
one of the 2017 AOPA Regional Fly-ins.

This event is scheduled for September 8-9, 2017.

2017 AOPA Regional Fly-In schedule includes four events and kicks off April 28 and 29 in Camarillo, California, followed by Norman, Oklahoma (Sept. 8 and 9); Groton, Connecticut (Oct. 6 and 7); and Tampa, Florida (Oct. 27 and 28). Each event will feature two full days of activities, including an expanded roster of learning opportunities and workshops beginning on the Friday of each event at 9 a.m. These workshops will cover a range of topics such as mountain flying or owner-performed maintenance that will help make flying more fun, affordable, safe, and accessible.

“We’re listening to our members who have asked for more extensive content, and we’re excited to bring new things that will deepen relationships and expand your flying skills,” said AOPA Director of Outreach and Events Chris Eads. “This has been about us really listening to the members.”

Eads and the event planning team have heard a great deal and refined their efforts based on experience gained at 16 AOPA Fly-Ins held to date. AOPA launched the regional events in 2014, shifting from a single annual convention to this new approach that was designed to gather members at locations closer to home, and make it possible for more members (and guests, including future pilots) to attend. That proved to be a formula for success: Total attendance grew 15 percent between 2014 and 2015, and 33 percent between 2015 and 2016. More than 6,000 aircraft arrivals have been logged to date, safely handled by a team of AOPA staff backed up by hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers. The AOPA Fly-Ins also have proved to be a venue where friendships are forged, gatherings where the aviation community has grown stronger.

“Our members are loving it,” Eads said.

Each event has included a delicious selection of local dishes because every party needs good food. Ice cream socials and Pilot Town Hall meetings with AOPA President Mark Baker also have been popular, and those will continue to be part of each Saturday program.

The aircraft display, exhibit hall, and AOPA Village will open at 4 p.m. on Friday, following the workshops and clinics. A program of various topics and speakers is being developed that will include some that are location specific, taking advantage of the geography of each area. While details of the workshop and clinic programs are still being worked out, count on each to “take you to new places in your aviation experience,” Eads said, adding that attendees can look forward to learning about the fine points of mountain flying, overwater flying, or other topics that will sharpen skills or make aviation easier.

The Barnstormers Party, established as a popular Friday evening event, will continue to be held from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Saturday agenda for 2017 begins with a pancake breakfast (possibly with some new menu additions that the chefs are cooking up), with the AOPA Village and seminars opening after breakfast at 9 a.m. AOPA also will offer the popular Rusty Pilots seminar that morning for those who have been out of the cockpit for two or more years and want to get back up to speed. Saturday activities will culminate at 3 p.m., but that won’t be the end of the experience: AOPA is also working to organize small fly-outs to nearby destinations to allow new friends and old to spend more time flying together to interesting regional destinations.

Details are being worked out to create an aircraft sales corral at each AOPA Fly-In to help members buy and sell aircraft. A drone experience, including caged flight demonstrations, is another feature likely to be added that will give members who are interested in unmanned aviation a close look at drones in action.

As AOPA looks to the future, growing the general aviation community remains a top priority. The AOPA Regional Fly-Ins will continue to serve that goal by bringing pilots together to experience a rich array of skill development, group flying, and hands-on activities.

AOPA 2017 Fly-In locations were announced Dec. 8.

MEDIA ADVISORY

June 8, 2016

Aeronautics Commission Partners with

Unmanned Systems Alliance of Oklahoma for 2016 USA-OK Summit

Who:               Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission

What:                         2016 USA-OK Summit

When:             Monday, August 8, 2016, at 6pm

Where:           Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History - 2401 Chautauqua Avenue, Norman, OK 73072

Why:

The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission and USA-OK are sponsoring an evening dinner and presentation that addresses legal and public policy issues regarding Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). The dinner event will be on the evening of August 8th, 2016 (a day before the main 2016 USA-OK Summit at the National Weather Center in Norman, Oklahoma on August 9th, 2016).

The purpose of the 2016 USA-OK Summit is to recognize Oklahoma’s unmanned and aerospace industry and support Governor Mary Fallin’s efforts toward the development of Oklahoma’s strengths and resources as a prime location for advancement, testing, and flight of UAS. The evening event is a unique opportunity for industry officials, businesses, hobbyists, and educators to come together in one unified voice and meet with state legislators and other elected officials to discuss federal and state laws regarding the use of drones for business and recreation.  A panel of distinguished experts will discuss timely and important legal, public policy and constitutional issues associated with emerging UAS regulations and rules and the safe integration of UAS into the national airspace.  Oklahoma’s has a strong aviation heritage and it is a natural progression for the state, and specifically the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission, to lead in policy development in state UAS use.

Background:

Topics will cover important 1st and 4th Amendment considerations, existing aviation law concerns, privacy, federal preemption challenges, and state concerns and issues.

Panel:

•Professor Stephen Henderson (chair), OU Law School

•Lisa Ellman, former White House official and Co-Executive Director of the Commercial Drone Alliance

•Professor Joseph Thai, OU Law School

•Professor Marc Blitz, OCU Law School

•Vic Bird, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission

Many of these same entities will have exhibit booths set up around the fourth floor rotunda to promote their organizations and to show what impact they and the rest of the state’s aerospace industry have on Oklahoma’s economy.

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Facts & Figures:

  • Oklahoma is a national leader for unmanned aerial system research and testing.
  • Oklahoma was the Department of Homeland Security’s selected site for its small UAS Robotic Aircraft for Public Safety (RAPS) program that supports first responders.
  • Oklahoma State University in Stillwater has the only UAS master’s and Ph.D. programs in the nation.
  • University of Oklahoma researchers are using UAS platforms for weather and radar-related research, and, along with OSU, are collaborating with the National Severe Storms Laboratory to use UAS to characterize severe storms.

Registration:

A catered dinner will be served and attendees will have access to exhibits in the museum. Business attire is recommended.   The dinner event will begin at 6:00pm and end at 10:00pm on August 8th, 2016.

Registration for the dinner is $35 before July 20, 2016 and $50 after July 20, 2016.

NOTE: The August 9th Summit DOES NOT include registration for the August 8th dinner, the August 8th dinner registration must be purchased separately.
